We Now Go To Birmingham Alabama and Surrounding Area's

Due to the calls we've been getting about dissappearing sharpeners, weekend sharpeners, and just plain bad sharpeners, we decided to go to Birmingham on a bi-monthly basis for a few select shops. You don't need your equipment sharpened every month. If you do, your making some sharpener a rich person. They count on that money every month from you so why should they tell you how to save it?

We'll show you how to take care of your equipment so you can get out of the habit of depending on a sharpener to bring your stuff back to a usable condition on a monthly basis. Your blades should last 3 months plus if you learn to clean and oil them properly, they last about a month when you do nothing with them.  I suggest at least having 6 each of 7F's and 10's, and any other blade you use frequently. You can't use one blade and keep spraying it with coolant, that blade won't last 3 weeks if that. How long your blades will cut depends on your blade care and not the sharpening. Of course, that blade has to cut good when you get it. Not oiling and using coolants decrease the time that blade is used before you think it needs sharpening.

Your clipper is 50% of your cutting system, you have to do the clipper maintenance or your blades won't cut either. Freshly sharpened blades bring out clipper problems and worn parts. If you notice 7's and 10's not cutting properly after they've been sharpend, it may not be the sharpening. Blade drives need replaced every 4 to 6 weeks, and hinges about every 6 months. The video's on this website with show you how the parts of your clipper look when they need replaced. If your clipper isn't taken care of, blades won't cut no matter who sharpens them. You are responsible for your clipper maintenance not the sharpener.
A good sharpener will check your clipper and make sure it's 100% before they leave your shop.

You can always mail to us...See the "Mail-in Service" Page

How Your Equipment is Sharpened

Blades are disassembled, cleaned, and hollow ground. Springs, glides, and sockets are adjusted or replaced (if necessary) at no extra charge1. Blades are then cleaned again in blade wash containing a DISSENFECTANT and RUST INHIBITOR, de-magnitized, lubricated and reassembled to precise factory tension and proper cutter setback. Each blade is string tested like the factory does it before it is returned to you.

Each shear is initially inspected; edges are re-sharpened to produce smooth, sharp scissoring; tension adjusted; bump stoppers, screws & washers replaced as needed at no extra charge1; then the shear is cleaned & lubricated, with final inspection and testing done on actual hair. As an active groomer, I set up shears for my hand making the emphasis on the tips. Usually the tension is OK for everyone by doing it this way. Corrugation is done by request at no charge, but it can take some of the cutting ability away from the blade its put on. Corrigation can also make the shear start a "swishing" sound when opening and closing.

There are two movies on the "Instuctional Video" page that shows how blades are reassembled and adjusted, and another describing how shears are set-up and adjusted after sharpening.
We test every blade on a clipper using Oster Test String or fur. We brush the blade afterwards but there may still be a speck of this material in the blade teeth. We try to be perfect, but that blade was cleaned and sharpened and it will cut.
1. This is within reason. If you have equipment that all has parts missing or broken you will be charged.

Here is my "On-site" sharpening Brochure and Pricelist. Print them out and give a copy to a friend. The prices are reasonable, competitive, and the sharpening is done right in your driveway. Service is what drives my business, and I sharpen equipment from all over the U.S.  You can become one of the select grooming shops on the mobile sharpening route....Just Call.  Your not going to anger the local guy, in fact, competition makes us better sharpeners.

I worked around my own grooming shop and was forced to use sharpeners who's work wasn't that good, and it never got any better. They ground my shears up, and I could count on 20% of the blades draggin' or not working at all when I got them back. On top of it all, they blamed me when I complained about something.
We had to use this guy because he was the only sharpener around for years and we didn't know there was anything better. He became a habit.

Please call and take advantage of this opportunity, old habits are easy to break.

I'm always looking to help groomers in area's outside of my initail on-site coverage area. I'm considered to be a "Service Center", regardless of profit.

- If you feel that you and other groomers are a reasonable distance from Mobile Alabama, or New Orleans LA, ( within a couple hundred miles ) CALL ME !
- If you are tired of mailing out blades, or worse yet, dropping off blades someplace and waiting a week or two for them, and you know other groomers in your area are tired of it as well  CALL ME !
- If the local sharpener is just an old habit because its the only sharpening around. And if you know everyone is tired of the quality of work, or the way they conduct themselves around you with arrogance and disrepect.
CALL ME !

We may include your city in the "on-site" sharpening service if I can acquire a few shops in the same area, ask around for me if you can or email me some phone numbers. My unit is self-contained and it would be very helpful if I could get a grooming shop parking lot to stay in overnight if we do come your way. I usually do a little free sharpening to compensate electricity for my lights and TV if there is a plug outside.
