Hi Jeff! I finally got the time to sit down and let you know how happy I am with your work, and your teaching---just watched the first 2 segments on your DVD. I've been thinking back to the times I've cut a dog or cat and how sheer ignorance was the cause, not a lack of care or concentration. The whole awful scenario of guilt, denial, rationalizations, infections and vet bills, etc can be totally avoided with some simple education, education that should be a requirementfor all groomers!! I'm going to start cleaning my blades tonight like you instruct, yes even tho sometimes I'm so freakin' exhausted I can barely mop the floor. I also use canned air while I'm grooming to blow all the crap out of the blades and usually use the air on them before I put them away, but you really highlighted how important disinfecting and rust prevention are.
I'm thrilled with my scissors, as well. So far I don't miss the serration. I can really feel the difference in the cutting edge when I run my finger over your work. Yeah, baby! Next paycheck I'll be sending in the rest of my stuff so all my equipment is brought up to par.
I'll be working my way through the rest of your DVD and expect the rest of the information to be just as enlightening. Your work exceeded my expectations, thank you!
I just got the switch for my 2 speed Oster and couldn’t wire it. I found your schematic on line and it was simple and easy to follow! My clippers are now operable again thanks to your help. Just wanted to let you know.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I just got off of the phone with you and you have changed my life!! I'm so excited to make these changes on how I handle my clipper blades. I will try to get these blades to you next week. I'm going to sit down and watch your video right now, so I know the proper way to oil the blades. I am also going to beef up my supply of 5's, 7's and 9's. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your advice and expertise! And your website is amazing also, you are very computer savvy!!
Wow !! I just finished watching the Speed Feed video and bookmarked your website. I am so impressed with this video and will certainly watch many others. I have maintained my own equipment for years but there is always so much more to learn. Everything I wanted to know is presented in a concise, easy to understand manner and the quality of the video is excellent! You have furnished an invaluable source of information for groomers. Thanks for making MY life easier.
Just wanted to thank you for the trouble you went to trying to fix my #3 F blade. After I talked to you, I dug out an old andis clipper and tried the blade on it. It worked, so apparently I have issues with my Wahl clippers. I know you went to trouble and the expense of sharpening my other two blades for nothing, I greatly appreciate your efforts at helping me out.
I use Northern Tails Sharpening, Jeff is great and sends you a GREAT CD on taking care of your blades and what a difference his techniques have made for me!!! I've groomed over 30 years and always used Kool Lube and oil the blades once a week, no wonder I went through so many!!
He is really fast with turnaround and also is a groomer, so understands the sharp scissors/blades thing we all need
another lurker that loves the info from this group!!
I just want to say thank you for your professionalism and honesty. I admit that I felt a twinge of concern after I sent off the package - first over handing over the credit card number, and two because I just sent off the blades and shears without delivery confirmation. I did that because I hate all the add ons that the post office tries put on you. Also, from reading your website, you seemed legitimate..... So I am grateful that everything went smoothly.
We used your service and experience for the first time after having a customer of ours recommend you - Tom Morse.
Chad found the information extremely informative and has put in place the correct method of cleaning and caring for the equipment. He has noticed a remarkable difference in grooming just by changing the 'driver' of the clipper.
We are very satisfied and appreciative of having learned about you.
Thank you and we will continue to send you our equipment as needed; only now it won't be as often as we have shipped out - which is awesome.
We sent some blades to you for sharpening earlier this month and I just wanted to drop you an email to say “thanks” for the excellent job. Turnaround was exactly one week from the time I mailed them until we got them back in the mail, the price was better than anyone else, and everything is working great. My wife said that even some of the blades that had been problem blades in the past are now working properly. You do an excellent job!
Responses from a post on "PETGROOMER.COM" "Where can I find a good Mail-in Sharpening Service?"
I send all my blades to Northern Tails, who advertises on this site, (www.northerntails.com). The turn around time is within a week, and he does a great job.
Most expensive scissor companies want you to send theirs back to them for sharpening due to their warrenty, ie: Sharks and Chris Christenson, so you can contact the maker or send to Northern Tails.

Yes, you can definitely trust your shears and blades to Jeff at Northern Tails. He grooms himself so he knows how important it is to have properly working equiptment.
Just sent my stuff to him via priority mail flat rate box (from Seattle area) on a Thursday night. He got it Saturday, sharpened it, and it was in the mail on Monday morning. Got it back by Wednesday am.
No one around here can do a good job, and most of the guys are jerks- it's worth it to me to send stuff off to Jeff. At first it was hard cause I didn't have spares of all my blades and stuff, but he did such a terrific job that it was totally worth it. Got a spare set of shears at the groom show so it's easier to deal without. Forgot how amazing sharp shears felt like till yesterday

I'm in Alaska and I send all my stuff to Jeff at Northern Tails as well. he does a great job and it's fast turn around, which for me is very important since it takes a little extra time to get my stuff to and from places.
Another vote for Jeff at Northern Tails Sharpening....AMAZING!!!

How much I love Jeff with Northern tails. He saved my blades that a guy here locally butchered. I will never trust anyone else!!! He is so kind and helpful and sharp, or rather the blades/shears are sharp.
Just got my stuff back from jeff at northern tails and it's fantastic! can't say enough good things about him!
I have to tell everyone- I sent 2 clippers to Jeff for repair. He has called me twice when he had questions. He wouldn't replace a part until I okayed it, just so he could save me some money. I applaud him for taking the time to really care about his customers! Kudos, Jeff! And thank you!
Responses from a post on "PETGROOMER.COM" "First time using Northern Tails Sharpening, any reviews?"
I believe a lot of "us" use Northern Tails Sharpening... this is my first timing using him and sending, almost Everything away to him! I am excited to, hopefully, have a new, great sharpener! I was, and I guess will be more costly to send- for shipping both ways but I most concerned about the Quality as other sharpeners don't/didn't seem to do a great job.
Any reviews about NTS?
He did a great job sharpening my scissors and blades…….fast turn-around !!

You will be very happy with Northern Tails!!! Don't worry about anything, Jeff does a good job and is very honest with his business dealings. I have used him for repairs on my clippers as well as sharpening for my blades and shears.
People- business owners and workers that take pride in their work, get good reputation and more business.
Yes, he seemed very trust worthy. i am excited! haven't ever been excited about sharpening/repair before, because I was always unsure...
Jeff is well known here, I can tell.!
Well havent had the pleasure of having my stuff sharpened lol, but have met Jeff while he was sharpening at a dog show. Long story short I only managed to scrounge up my 35 blade that hubby "stole" from me for him to check.. cause I dont use it and wanted to make sure it didnt need any sharpening. Anywho introduced my self and we just chatted away. I saw his creds, which was cool and we talked about grooming.. gave me a couple tips. I asked him if he could look at the 35 blade, which he did and determined it was was perfectly fine/sharp. He could have made something up and tell me that it needed sharpening, but didnt BS me which is really huge in my eyes. So whenever my blades decide to get dull Ill be sending him a box. I did buy some buttercuts from him and he gave me a blade box for when I decide to ship him some blades. His shop is an hour from me or so. Seems to be a really cool honest guy, plus he is a groomer too.

Jeff is Awsome! I am new to grooming and purchased a Laube Clipper (I was still training and when I started usiing it had problems with it running) Sent it to Jeff and He was able to fix it with a different body (I think is how it was) But it works great now. At that time I also sent him a blade from (again a used) Speed Feed that was dull. (I will not purchase used tools anymore since I always get burned).
But anyway Jeff was great called and discussed options, great turn around time.. I will not use anyone else. We all know how important customer service is and Northern Tails is great. He won my business.
Jeff is awesome! Used him for years!

I have sent stuff to him and would totally recommend him. Its a bit more for me to send them off but SOOO worth it. My stuff comes back Working AND Sharp. No local sharpner can match him. I keep trying to get the other girls in the shop to go in with me to save $$ but they are stuck on old habits and the convience of "local". I want quality work and the time and cost to ship is worth it in my book.
I sent him my gators today !!!!! I cant wait to get them back and Ill tell you how he did .Ive heard absolutely nothing but good about them-im sure they will be great. Got my shears back today!!!! whoo hoo they are sharp I hadnt realized how darn dull they were untill I got them back!!!!! 6 days ago I sent them off.I love northern trails!! they did a wonderfull job.Ill be sending more out monday or tuesday!!!!! no worries .
I haven't had the chance to send in my stuff to him yet, but i did call him and ask him a few questions about broken or rusted equipment and basically everything i own can be fixed! I have two pairs of scissors that have been dropped, or flinged across the room by the random doggy kick...and amazingly they can be fixed! I thought I should just toss them as thats how i was taught, once you drop them, your screwed..also i have 2 pairs of clippers i thought were done for...he can fix them too...around 800$ worth of equipment i thought i would have to throw away, but it can all be fixed for under 200$! plus being able to send in severely rusted blades and have them repaired made me feel so much better...I really am excited to send out everything to him...
I have tried NUMEROUS sharpeners and Jeff was hands down the BEST to work with and have 100% with his work he did!! YAAAH JEFF!!!
Jeff, thank you for this website. I wish I had seen it sooner. I am in dog rescue and cannot afford to take them to a groomer (and my friendly mobile groomer who volunteered here moved far away a couple of months ago). I just found answers to several of my questions on your website. I use Oster, A-2 and Groom Masters, and an Andis. I currently have 35 dogs in my home, and we all appreciate the information on you site.
Jeff, I just wanted to say THANKS SO MUCH for leaving the edge on my shears and not charging me the full price for sharpening them. Also, I noticed that you didn't charge me return shipping. Again THANKS SO MUCH.
Hi Jeff, I am hairstylist and groomer. I have had a very hard time trying to find someone in the SoCal area to sharpen/fix my grooming shears. Not only are they hard to find, the ones I have found do not return phone calls. The last thing I wanted to do was ship out my scissors to someone~ You sound like you know what you're doing so I am going to give you a shot. :)
I have a couple of pairs of curves, Pruitt Perfect Edge and Geib Gators that I need sharpened and balanced. Unfortunately, one pair was knocked off a table and the other pair somehow lost the rubber bumper and the blades got nicked in the process. Ouch. :*( I also have a pair of straights, also Geib Gators that belonged to a friend and they also are nicked and out of whack. Help! I have backups to use while waiting for these. I will also send a pair that needs the bumper replaced as well. I don't understand why these bumpers are coming out as I've never had to replace one in all of 25 years until now. Strange. I'm hoping you sharpen curves as well as straights. I'm sure you do. If all goes well, I know I can get you lots of new business because happy hairstylists/groomers tell everyone! :) : ) :) I will ship these out to you on Monday. Let me know if there is anything I need to know or any of the above that I shouldn't send for some reason. Thank you so much and I look forward to working with you.
Kindly, Susan Schultz
Hi my name is Tiffany Lajaunie, proud owner Of Jolie Chien pet spa boutique and bakery In River Ranch Lafayette Lousiana. I have Been grooming for a 10 years. I have had Lots of different sharpening dealings with my Grooming tools, from mailing them off to having Someone pick them up and returning sharpen Blades, to dropping them off and picking them Up on way to work to sharpening myself. It Was all a nightmare. When Mr. Jeff started Sharpening my tools and servicing my clippers It's like heaven arrived. Omg! Everything is razor Sharp and stays that way. I don't need as many Blades sharpen because they last so long. God Bless you and thank you Mr Jeff for all The hard work and great blade shear and clipper Care advise. A loyal client.
I've been sending them down to my daughter she uses a guy that does the Panama City Fl. Area and both of us aren't too happy with his work. Most of my blades aren't adjusted right and the hair keeps jamming them, and their just not lasting like they should. My daughter said she uses **** from ******** Sharpening but he's been doing a bad job. She said he's been really sick and we just can't wait any longer to get this taken care of and she's not sure if he just wasn't feeling good or what but when you have 30 blades sharpened and they don't work it's really aggrevating. When will you be back in the Montgomery area? We've read fantastic things about you and want YOU to be our sharpener!
( Referring to our video "Cleaning the Wahl 5-N-1 Trimmer Blade)
This video blew my mind when I first saw it. Since then every student that comes through our school, and every groomer I work with has been shown how to properlyclean their blades. Thank you so much! You saved us a lot of unnecessary sharpening and replacing of blades

Hi Jeff, Just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful sharpening service. Sending my blades and scissors to you was actually faster than the pick up and return delivery I have used in the past. I appreciate how carefully you wrap and package things. Grooming is a late in life career change and I am loving it! Thanks again and best wishes to you!

Loved your last 2 articles in CGQ! Thanks so much for all the tips!
Saw ya in the the June Groomer to Groomer magazine :) Great article, that is my hardest blade to keep sharp/clean!
I too love the buttercut blades and haven't had any problems with buying bad blades, just make sure when you do buy them that you clean and oil them before you use them. Jeff at Northern Tails Sharpening is an honest guy and will help you with any concerns or problems concerning maintenance.
I use only Andis or Geib/Buttercut blades. Haven't bought any but a few Geib in years and those only at the Geib booth at trade shows. I send my blades to Northern Tails Sharpening for sharpening and have some that are 30+ years old and still cut great.
I just wanted to say a big Thank You for all the helpful information on your website.
I am a relatively newly qualified dog groomer and established my own grooming salon just three months ago.
I decided upon ' Laube Flash Lightening' as my main set of clippers thinking it was worth the investment of £200GBP for long term performance and reliability. Over the past few weeks I became concerned that their performance seemed to be getting gradually worse and over heating becoming more of a problem.
Having watched many of your instructional videos I now realise ( I hope) that the problem is poor blade maintenance!
I think the instructions that come with the clippers are woefully inadequate.
Clipper maintenance was not covered during the course of my very expensive training, nor is it addressed in any of the instructional books I purchased.
I am thankful that I stumbled across you website , otherwise I think my motor would not have lasted much longer!
Thanks to you I now know how to look after my clippers.
Well I just got my first shipment of shears and blades back from Northern Tails. I never knew a shears could work so well. My day today was wonderful. I got a call explaining that my shears were completely sharpened wrong and I could tell when I used them today. Smooth like a cadillac ride. LOVE IT!!! Thanks for the call and the great work!!
There are more......we post them when we have time!
